FLINT (WJRT) –
(06/19/12) – Downtown Flint businesses will soon have a new neighbor.
A family business with a strong Mid-Michigan connection is moving into the ground floor of the Rowe Engineering Building on South Saginaw.
Tuesday, city and business leaders came together to announce the opening of Landaal Packaging’s corporate headquarters.
The business already has locations in Burton and Bay City.
“Business has been good the past couple years and I felt it was time to reinvest into, really research and development into our packaging industry, and we couldn’t think of a better place than downtown Flint,” said Steve Landaal, Landaal Packaging president.
Landaal says the move will create 10 new jobs. He hopes that number will increase over time.
The head of the Genesee Regional Chamber thinks it will spark even more investment in the center of the city.
“We’re working very hard to bring more business into our down town, not only more business, but retail as well as people to live here, so it’s very important to get the capacity of people living here. We have a thousand people living in downtown now,” said Tim Herman, Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The company hopes to fill this empty space and be open for business by later summer/early fall.
