Landaal partnership helps Dow create model for responsible business practices

February 14, 2011
Dow partnered with corrugated box supplier Landaal Packaging Systems to develop a box material made from approximately 83 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials. Launched in 2010, the new box material impacts the environment significantly less than Dow’s previous box material, which was made from less than 20 percent recycled material.
Dow’s sustainable box material maintains the package performance required to safely deliver products, while also translating to considerable environmental benefits, including energy savings, lower use of natural resources and reduced waste products. More specifically, the boxes made from 83 percent PCR materials:
- • Require 19 percent less energy
• Reduce tree consumption by 73 percent
• Emit 25 percent less carbon dioxide
• Reduce both solid waste and waste water by 50 percent
The recycled box conversion is just one example of Dow’s commitment to serving as a model for responsible business practices that have a positive impact in the communities where Dow operates.
